David Clough
David Clough is running for the Canton Board
of Assessors with a clear commitment: he will
contribute 100% of his Board of Assessors salary
to a Canton-based charity.

David believes Canton residents deserve fair
and balanced tax policy — especially as the
debt service for The Galvin Middle School
comes due. Many large commercial
communities in Norfolk County shift the tax
burden to the full extent allowed under state law. David supports using that same authority in Canton to ensure large businesses pay their fair share, while protecting homeowners.

Importantly, David also supports implementing a Small Business Exemption so that locally owned small businesses are not negatively impacted by any tax classification shift.

The tax classification decision is made annually at the Assessor’s Tax Classification Hearing, typically held in November. At this public hearing, the Board of Assessors and Select Board determine how the total property tax levy is divided between residential and commercial properties — in simple terms, who pays what share of the tax burden.

Professional Background

David holds a bachelor’s degree in international business from SUNY Plattsburgh and attended graduate school at Boston University for finance before leaving to pursue entrepreneurship. He founded eVacuumStore.com, which has grown into a successful national e-commerce company where he now serves as Director of eCommerce. Earlier in his career, he worked at State Street Financial and owned multiple Electrolux retail stores.

Municipal Experience

David previously served on the Canton Finance Committee for 6 years, where he reviewed:

-
Payments in Lieu of Taxes (PILOT)
-
Special Tax Agreements (STA)
-
Tax Increment Financing (TIF)
His focus was protecting taxpayers while ensuring fair and accurate commercial valuation practices.
He also served on the Town’s Police Audit Committee, supporting professional oversight, public trust, and a review of policy standards. In addition, David served one year on the Capital Planning Committee, where he gained an understanding of the Town’s debt obligations and cash capital needs.

Community Involvement
Beyond municipal service, David has been actively involved in community and charitable efforts. His company served for several years as the title sponsor of the MSPCA-Angell Run Fur Fun 5K, helping the event raise over $150,000 to support the organization’s law enforcement, advocacy, shelter, and veterinary programs. His company was also the original title sponsor of Canton Clean Up Day, and he continues to volunteer each year alongside his wife Ashley, who serves as a site leader. David also assisted with improvements to the KeepCantonBeautiful.org website.

David is not seeking office as a career politician, but as a resident committed to contributing his professional experience, financial background, and volunteer service to Canton’s future. He believes that open dialogue, transparency, and accountability are essential to earn public trust.
