DAVID MCCARTHY

I am David McCarthy, and I am running for re-election to

the Canton Planning Board. Today, I serve as Chairperson

of the five-member Board. My commitment to Canton is

unwavering, and I have a record of listening to concerns

to understand the challenges faced by residents, homeowners,

developers, and the town administration. I have a track record

of asking questions and doing what is best for the town—not

for but for the residents of Canton.

As an elected representative and one of five members of the

Planning Board, we review five different types of applications for residential, commercial, and industrial projects: Approval-Not-Required (ANR), Subdivision of Land, Special Permit, Site Plan Review, and Scenic Ways. The Planning Board does not issue Zoning Variances, but the Zoning Board does.

Early in my role on the Planning Board, I had the opportunity to serve as the Chairperson of Canton's Master Plan titled Canton Master Plan 2035: Community, Commerce, and Conservation. The plan's title summarizes our Community, Commerce, and Conservation objectives. The committee's goal at each meeting was to create a plan to guide Canton toward 2035. After much discussion and debate with the committee and resident guests, The Master Plan Committee, and the Planning Board, the plan was approved and later received the support of Town Meeting members. This plan has been the cornerstone of our community's park, residential, commercial and industrial development.

Additionally, the Planning Board has routinely sought community input on Canton Center, the MBTA Community Preservation Act, the town, and its direction over the past years. I deeply value your input and ideas; these conversations are crucial to improving Canton. Your voices matter, and I am committed to ensuring you are heard.

In addition to my responsibilities with the Planning Board, I serve as a representative of Planning on the Community Preservation Committee. The Select Board appointed me to the Affordable Housing Trust. I have also been a member of the Canton Lions Club for many years.

David grew up in Scituate, Massachusetts, and attended Suffolk University, where he received a degree in accounting.  He worked for retailers Jordan Marsh, Grossman's, and TJX early in his career. David believes the industry's focus on excellent customer service has given him many skills he uses today.  Before his current position, which he has held since 2005, David also owned Chamberlain Property Management. He credits that position for sparking his interest in entering the real estate field and running his own business. Today, David is the Operating Partner for the Keller Williams offices in Boston, Newton, and Framingham. He has no broker affiliation with any office in Canton.

David and his Husband, Dr. Alan Rapoport, a proud townie, have chosen Canton, MA, as their home. This personal connection to the town fuels David's commitment to serving the community and ensuring its continued growth and prosperity.
