Gene Manning

Gene Manning has announced his candidacy for reelection to the Canton Board of Assessors in the April 2026 election.

As the current Chairman, Manning has served on the board for nine years and has worked closely with fellow board members, the Select Board, and the Finance Department to help establish the town’s status as having the lowest residential tax rates in Norfolk County.

A Canton resident and homeowner for 30 years, Manning has served the town in a volunteer capacity on the Economic Development Committee for more than 20 years, currently as Chairman. In this role, he has contributed to many commercial projects, including the Organogenesis campus, the Amazon distribution facilities on Dan Road, the developments by Trillium Brewing and Point32Health on Royall Street, and the continued presence of Dunkin’ Brands’ global headquarters in Canton.

His extensive municipal experience also includes grant writing for the Town, serving on the Permit Advisory Committee, acting as Past Chairman of the Capital Planning Committee, and serving as Past President and current Board Member of the Canton Association of Business and Industry. (CABI).

In 2023, he collaborated with multiple town boards and departments on the planning and design of a new zoning district required under Canton’s MBTA Communities initiative. This was approved by Town Meeting and the Massachusetts Executive Office of Housing and has since supported the development of a new residential project in the community.

He has negotiated multiple PILOT (Payment in Lieu of Taxes) agreements with Canton nonprofit organizations, most notably a 30‑year agreement with Point32Health on Royall Street that will result in more than $45 million in total payments to the town over the length of the agreement. Most recently, he worked with town leadership to negotiate a $100,000 donation from the Judge Rotenberg Center.

Manning has also been active in the community, coaching youth sports and serving on numerous boards, as well as supporting charitable efforts that benefit the town.

He has been a senior executive with Marriott International for more than 30 years and was recognized as Canton Citizen of the Year in 2014.

Election Day is April 7, 2026.
