Appointed to the School Committee in fall of 2024

and subsequently elected to fulfill the remainder of

the term in April 2025, Sonja is a parent of two

CPS elementary students and has volunteered in

several capacities since moving to Canton in 2016.

She served as a resident-at-large member of the

Canton 2025 Master Plan Steering Committee and

Route 138 Corridor Redevelopment Committee,

Canton Daisy troop Treasurer, a Canton Youth

Baseball coach and as Hansen CAPT Treasurer and

Hansen School Council member. Sonja’s priorities as

a member of the School Committee include building relationships and effective communication with educators and community members, responsible budget stewardship, driving progress on the District’s strategic goals, and school safety. She is also focused on continuing academic progress toward pre-pandemic levels and closing achievement gaps among student groups. She is currently a member of the School Committee’s Budget and Finance subcommittee, and serves as the liaison to the Town of Canton’s Master Plan Implementation Committee.

In addition to her community involvement, Sonja has dedicated her career to public service at several Massachusetts state agencies. She currently serves as the Secretariat Director of Data Analytics & Project Management at the Executive Office of Health and Human Services where she manages technical and strategic planning projects, collaborating with agencies like DCF, DYS, and DPH to meet their operational, research, and data needs. Prior to this role, she worked for over ten years in the Data and Accountability group at the MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. This work affords her a deep understanding of the metrics and systems by which public schools are evaluated as well as research-based strategies for school and student success.

Sonja holds a Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science from Northeastern University, where she graduated as the Valedictorian of the College of Arts and Sciences. She also has a Master of Public Administration (MPA) from UMass Boston. She enjoys spending time outdoors in all seasons with her family and friends, live music, and relaxing at home with her kids and husband.
